The first time I read the closing lines of Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty was the first time a book ever made me cry. It was a gift from my Great Aunt Anna for Christmas when I was eight, and presents the world to the reader through the eyes of its eponymous character, the beautiful and noble horse, Beauty. Sewell illuminates the twists of fate and strokes of chance that transform the life of an animal subjected to the whims and decisions of humankind; the story shows humans at their selfless best and selfish worst. As a photographer, I love capturing images that highlight the special relationships between a human and their animal, and portrait shots that give glimpses into the personality of each unique animal soul. I hope that scrolling through this page brings a smile to your face - so many different characters brightening our lives and our world.
